Natural weight loss solutions - Menopause

You are either heading towards it, in it or thankfully over it!

Wherever you are in this natural journey of life, you know you are not feeling yourself. Everyday symptoms are becoming just part of your life, hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, anxiety, depression, acne, dry skin.

There is something you can do to relieve these symptoms NATURALLY. Your doctor will provide you with a solution, however, there are still some simple actions you can take that will help you through this time in your life.

Do you find that cutting back on a few treats does not have the same effect on your waistline and the scales as before? The face cream you have always used is no longer keeping your skin hydrated? …. Let’s not even discuss the brain fog, anxiety and hot flushes!

Why is this happening?

As a Registered  Nutritional Therapist, and lover of food and all things natural, the first place I start with my clients in the Menopause years looking for long-term health improvements is to balance their stomach acid. The impact of our lifestyle and food choices often causes bloating and indigestion in the short term. However, the long-term imbalance impacts on our ability to absorb vitamins and minerals that are essential for your body’s growth and repair.

Your body’s natural response to try and deal with stress and fatigue is to reach for that energy hit or sugar treat as you tell yourself you deserve it! Unfortunately, that instant high is short-lived, as that little treat only adds inches on your waistline and sends your hormones into depression and anxiety.

Nutrition Advice for Weight Gain in Menopause

Start with balancing your blood sugars, cleanse your liver, reduce adrenal stress and improve your stomach acid, some top tips are as follows:

  • Add Superfoods to your breakfast, such as Flaxseeds & Chia seeds
  • Make your porridge with Almond milk or Coconut milk
  • Enjoy Beetroot, Celery and Fermented foods such as Sauerkraut each day
  • Try Dandelion Coffee & Liquorice or green teas
  • Grind Himalayan pink salt on your food along with apple cider vinegar & lemon

Think ahead – plan your meals 2-3 days ahead. When out with friends and family ensure you eat for your health not what everyone else is eating. So many of my clients tell me about times when they just had to have that cake with coffee or had to have some nibbles provided by their friend at a dinner party as not to offend them. So ask yourself, are those loved ones about to help you during the night when you are restless and having hot flushes, or in the morning when you look in the mirror and nothing in your wardrobe fits? Is this you? Do you feel depressed? Well do not despair they too will be looking in their own mirror feeling exactly the same!

Meaning of Insanity: Doing the same thing every time and expecting a different result, take control of your own health. In conclusion, The menopause is a natural cycle of life, however, the symptoms are not. You have a choice and there is help out there for you.

The consequence of ignoring these menopausal symptoms may lead to a reduction in your bone health, often diagnosed as osteoporosis or arthritis. Furthermore, long-term metabolic imbalances can led to autoimmune diseases such as hypothyroidism or cardiovascular diseases
