My clinical experience - ten years of clinical experience. Started as a sports remedial massage therapist in 2008 then graduated from ION in 2012 as a nutritional therapist. Started working with the skin and body treatments along with my nutrition advice, as I found working from the inside and outside was essential for long-lasting satisfaction and results for my clients.
My Lifestyle Business
Each day I start with the drive and determination to be the best I can be for my clients and my own health. As a business owner, a partner to Steve, a daughter, sister and auntie, my goal is to be happy and confident in myself. It is important to have the self-belief, strength and happiness, so I can positively influence others around me.
Turning 40 years old
In July 2016 I turned 40 years old. At this point in my life that I felt proud of what I had achieved and learned along the way. When I was 32 years old Steve and I decided that having a family was not for us, so a change in career from a financial adviser felt the right way forward for me. Ten years on, we are fit and healthy, both physically and mentally. We are a happy little team.
Love A Challenge
I love to set myself a challenge, either personally or professionally. They tend to be food or drink related, like no alcohol for 40 days, 30 days of no dairy, ketone diet or setting up my online functional nutrition course - Jen's Nutri-Club. The main challenge is trying not to annoy Steve too much! These are not the hardest challenges I have ever faced, but they are the ones that influence my current habits and behaviours.
Enjoying the Good Life
I love the good things in life; I'm champagne charlie and food diva (that's what my sister calls me), relaxing after work on a Friday 'early doors' at our friends Hels & Nick in the sunshine. In the winter months, after a long bike ride or training run, Steve and I like to snuggle up on the sofa in front of our log burner in the cottage, with a bottle of Italian red wine and watch Formula 1 Race on a Sunday afternoon.
Each day is full of exciting new challenges; from my food choices to reading the latest nutrition journal or testing new treatments and products from Biologique Recherche. However, it is not always a bed of happy fluffy roses. I have had my challenges, mainly with myself. These days talking about food, health and skin care is great fun. Unfortunately, I have previously used food to punish myself or as a distraction from whatever issues I need to face. As an example, today while writing this I am finding it very difficult to understand what a widget is, or my domain name SSL password. Each time is get complicated I have a look in the fridge for the answer. After doing this for many hours, I do know the answer is never in there. What is have learnt to do is go for a run around Draycote Water or when I distract myself with a much easier task. I would like to mention thou, the bowl of raspberries and yoghurt I have just enjoyed has calmed me down sufficiently to write another part of this website copy.
My Values and Beliefs
From personal experience, working with clients and listening to various experts in lectures is that talk is actually very expensive. When we learn something new, teach others or commit to doing something different if we do not react and take responsibility to implement change then it is a very expensive lesson. Making a small change, facing our fears and stepping outside your comfort zone is priceless!
Open and Honesty
The most valuable lesson I have learnt since working for myself is to be open and honest with myself, family and clients (in that order). If I’m not honest with myself and believe in my values how can I be the best partner, friend, daughter, sister, auntie and therapist!
My clients are an absolute inspiration to me. They are often surprised when they achieve their goals so quickly, yet when I meet them I know this is the beginning of a new journey to happiness for them. They overcome the stresses and issues in life, by learning to put themselves first, especially when they are ready to lose weight, or when recovering from illness, bereavement or the menopause. When they look in the mirror and love what they see, wear less makeup and feel comfortable in their own skin, they inspire me to ensure that my treatments, knowledge and expertise is the best it can be. They trust me, and they gift me the responsibility to help them.
